Network Basic Input/Output System (NETBIOS)

Microsoft produced a naming convention called NETBIOS that could be used on a small LAN.
It was not scalable and did not catch on.
It used a maximum of 15 characters with a service identifier.
<00> was the workstation service, <03> was the messenger service and <20> was the server service.
In this exercise, you are going to use a tool called nbtstat.
The ‘nb’ stands for NETBIOS, the ‘t’ is for tcp/ip, and ‘stat’ is for statistics.
Go to the command prompt and type nbtstat -n.
You should get an output similar to that shown below:

The CompTIA exam will ask you to identify the output above and choose the tool that produced it. Here, that is nbtstat.
